Rdio for iOS: It’s Getting Better All the Time

Rdio is already the best music app available (just ask the New York Times), but that’s not good enough for us — we’re always looking for ways to make our mobile app even better.

So today, we’re excited to launch two new features on the Rdio app for iOS.

First up is playlist editing. Now, you can update your playlists from your iPhone or iPod touch — in addition to creating playlists and adding new tracks, you can now remove and rearrange tracks until you’ve made the best playlist ever (or it’s dethroned by your next playlist, of course). You can also customize the playlist artwork, change its visibility and collaboration settings, and more.

The other big addition is reviews. You can now write album and playlist reviews right from the iOS app, and read reviews by critics and other people on Rdio. It’s a great way to see what other listeners think of your favorite albums and let your own voice be heard.

We’ve also made tweaks to the app’s design, user interface, and overall performance — all the little details that make Rdio so enjoyable to use.

We hope you enjoy the updates on Rdio for iOS. We look forward to bringing these new features to Android down the road.

Rdio + Shazam Go Global

Rdio and Shazam

We’ve been incredibly stoked about working with Shazam the past year to power music discovery in new and creative ways. Earlier this month we announced our latest integration with Shazam to offer a personal playlist of your Shazamed songs in the Rdio App. This playlist automatically updates with every new song you tag in Shazam, making it easy to relive an amazing night out, track for track, on Rdio. Music fans can also instantly listen to entire songs on the fly right after tagging them in Shazam by clicking the “Listen Free on Rdio” link within the app.

Now Rdio and Shazam are taking these integrations around the world to 29 additional countries including France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Working together in major countries across the globe, we are now providing more than 270 million Shazam users the ability to instantly listen to an entire song they just identified exclusively on Rdio and seamlessly build playlists on Rdio,” said Daniel Danker, chief product officer of Shazam.

“Music lovers around the globe can now connect Shazam's tagging feature with Rdio's digital music service. All the songs tagged in Shazam are automatically added to a 'My Shazam Tracks' playlist in Rdio, making it easy to identify, save, and organize their music discoveries,” said Anthony Bay, chief executive officer of Rdio. “Rdio and Shazam are at the forefront of how people are discovering new music.”

Here is the complete list of the 35 countries where the Shazam and Rdio integration is now available: United States, United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Venezuela.

Our partnership with Shazam is one of the many ways we are dedicated to bringing the Rdio experience to music lovers everywhere. Paired with our new option to listen to Rdio for free on web or mobile in the United States, we can proudly say the music never stops! And for on-demand listening everywhere you go, upgrade to Rdio Unlimited, our Family Plan, or grab a Student Discount.

Pass It On: Drag & Share the Music You Love

When you stumble upon music that feels new and noteworthy, the desire to share it with friends comes pretty easily. That’s why we’ve made it simpler than ever to share music you discover on Rdio with the new Drag & Share feature, available on Rdio web and desktop apps.

Here’s how it works: Click the album, playlist, or song you want to share, drag it to the right side of your Rdio screen, and choose how you want to share it — on Twitter, on Facebook, or with a friend on Rdio. You can quickly drag music to a playlist, too.

Whether you’re repping your new jam on Twitter and Facebook or telling your best friend about an album they just gotta hear, Drag & Share is a faster, fun way to spread the word about the music you love. And that’s not a drag at all.

Music Discovery: Now Easier Than Ever

Rdio Friends

At Rdio, we’re all about helping you find new music. From Heavy Rotation to label pages, music discovery is always at the forefront of our design. We’re introducing new features to personalize your music exploration and give you more control over the music you’re listening to, as you’re listening to it. Today, we’ll walk you through the first of these updates that you may have already noticed in our web and desktop apps.

  • Welcome to Rdio — New listeners will immediately be greeted by fellow Rdio friends (based on connected Twitter and Facebook accounts), awesome influencers, and the tunes they love when they first sign up. After all, music should be social.

  • Find People — Just like in the updated iOS and Android apps, current listeners can view a curated list of recommended friends alongside hand-picked artists and influencers to follow.

  • AutoPlay — Never again wonder, “What should I listen to next?” AutoPlay is a personalized station that plays more music similar to the last song you listened to.

  • Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down — We’re debuting one of our most-requested features. When playing an artist station, song station, or AutoPlay, just roll over the tracklist to vote on current and upcoming songs. Each time you click, Rdio learns more about your tastes, curating more of the music you love.

  • Start Station — Can’t get enough of what’s currently playing? Now you can start a new station based on the song you’re listening to by hitting the Start Station button on the album art.

  • New Player — We’ve integrated the album artwork from the currently playing song for a beautiful and visually-evolving listening experience. Access the full view by clicking the player button on the bottom right. Here you’ll be able to see what’s now playing and the tracklist of upcoming music.

We’re excited for our listeners to take these features for a spin.
