An Rdio Exclusive: Listen to The Spinto Band’s New Album

Spinto_pink

Delaware five-piece The Spinto Band created quite a buzz in the latter half of the 2000s, with albums like 2005’s Nice and Nicely Done and 2008’s Moonwink. That pair of albums demonstrated their knack for pop hooks and quirky instrumentation. They’ve been relatively silent since but on May 1, The Spinto Band returns with Shy Pursuit, their first album in over four years, and seventh overall.

Want to hear what The Spinto Band’s been working on these last few years? Rdio has an exclusive of the new album, a week before its official release date. Listen to Shy Pursuit below, and add it to your collection now.

Only on Rdio: Hear Pete Seeger’s Complete Bowdoin College Concert 1960

Pet

On May 3, iconic folk singer Pete Seeger will be 93, but that doesn’t mean he’s hung up his gloves just yet. In 2008, he released the appropriately titled At 89, and now, he’s reissuing his 1960 performance at Bowdoin College in its entirety, courtesy of Smithsonian Folkways.

The Complete Bowdoin College Concert, 1960 was recorded during Seeger’s targeting by the infamous House Un-American Activities Committee. Despite being blacklisted and indicted for refusing to answer questions about his political beliefs, Seeger trekked across the continent, playing “community concerts” to fans who saw Seeger as a trailblazing songwriter and social activist.

The entire recorded concert will be released next week, but you can listen to The Complete Bowdoin College Concert, 1960, a week early on Rdio. Listen to it below, and follow influencer Smithsonian Folkways for more significant recordings from America’s musical past.

Only on Rdio: Play Aeges Debut, The Bridge, a Week Early

Aeges

Los Angeles quartet Aeges make the kind of contemplative metal that brings double-meaning to the word “heavy.” The band formed in mid-2011, and combines thick riffs, thundering drums, and melody — elements that come to a head on their debut album, The Bridge.

Though it’s not out officially for another week, The Bridge is available to hear now, exclusively on Rdio. Listen to the album below and share it with your favorite metalhead thinker.

Exclusive: Listen to Sydney Wayser’s Bell Choir Coast

Sydney
(Photograph by Shervin Lainez)

When Los Angeles singer-songwriter Sydney Wayser was in New York to record her new album, she found the weather dreary. So, she crept back into her mind, where the warm, beautiful beach she envisioned was waiting — there, she found the inspiration she needed to evoke the laid-back, fun-loving atmosphere of her native city. Based off that vision, Wayser created her third album, Bell Choir Coast. It is the sound of Wayser’s fantasy land: banjos, whistled melodies, gentle chimes, and strummed guitar.

The album will be released a week from now, but you can listen to the whole thing now, only on Rdio. Hear Bell Choir Coast below.

Exclusive: Listen to The Veer Union’s Divide the Blackened Sky

Veer Union Promo Photo C&E

Vancouver, British Columbia’s The Veer Union released their indie debut in 2006 and just three years later, the band signed to a major label — their second album was 2009’s Against the Grain. Since then, The Veer Union perfected their aggressive brand of grunge and heavy alternative and toured with bands like Hinder, Theory of a Deadman, and Seether.

Fast forward to now and The Veer Union is ready to drop Divide the Blackened Sky, the next step in their ascending career. According to the band, it’s their heaviest and darkest album yet, and represents “all the hard times we have been through over the last couple of years.” The album is out next week, but you can listen to Divide the Blackened Sky now, exclusively on Rdio.

Exclusive: Cursive Complement I Am Gemini with a “World of Hurt” Playlist

Cursive_03

Omaha, Nebraska outfit Cursive formed in 1995, long enough ago to be indie-rock veterans. Cursive’s emotive, unpredictable sound was an integral part of their label Saddle Creek’s meteoric rise in the early 2000s. The way the band’s sound changed on each of their releases over the years earned them a rabid fan-base and a long, rewarding career. The quartet’s latest album is I Am Gemini, a concept album about “twin brothers separated at birth, one good and one evil, their unexpected reunion in a house that is not a home ignites a classic struggle for the soul.”

To complement this dark theme, the guys from Cursive compiled the gut-wrenching World of Hurt playlist, comprising songs of heartbreak, longing, and regret — it’s only on Rdio. Listen to I Am Gemini and their curated playlist, below.
