Run the NYC Marathon with Rdio

Nycmarathon1

Tens of thousands of runners are getting ready for the ING New York City Marathon on November 3, and one thoughtful Rdio super user has made not one, but two soundtracks for it!

Jon Farb, who describes himself as a “NYC tech scene nerd,” has made two playlists to keep himself and you pumped through the whole day. “The only way I've been able to keep the motivation and power through time intensive training has been listening exclusively to Rdio playlists,” he says, “Both my very strategically crafted playlists as well as other users’.”

His playlist "Pow!" hits hard with songs by the loud likes of Rancid, Adolescents, and Sick Of It All, while "Wham!" stars classic punk and rock bands like the Sex Pistols, Ramones, and X. Hey, it takes a lot of energy to run 26.2 miles, so you need all the help you can get.

Thanks for the playlists, Jon! You can track his progress by following his bib number, 42630 on Sunday. Good luck to everyone who is running the marathon!

Barsuk Records Turns 15

Barsuk

Happy Birthday, Barsuk Records! From the days of split 7-inch vinyl singles through to today’s digital offerings, the vital Seattle label was first to champion acts such as Death Cab for Cutie (Barsuk released the 10th Anniversary Edition of the band’s album Transatlanticism just this week), Menomena, Phantogram, Nada Surf, and Rilo Kiley. These and other Barsuk-nurtured groups have all weathered a fickle music industry to garner international acclaim. The label’s roots actually go back close to 20 years, but officially, it’s turning a sophisticated 15 this year.

Listen to the Barsuk Records: Celebrating 15 Years playlist to quickly acquire a deep understanding of the company’s musical triumphs. While these artists are definitely diverse on the surface, you’ll soon discover an indefinable thread of originality that ties them all together.
