New Music Weekly: June 4, 2013

Capital CitiesQOTSACity and Colour

Summer is still officially a few weeks out, but you wouldn’t know it from the way the new music releases are heating up. Just this week alone, we welcome new albums by heavy metal heroes Megadeth, the mighty Ben Folds Five trio, Oakland indie act Rogue Wave, and Arizona rock outfit The Maine, but that’s just the very tip of the (quickly melting) iceberg.

We curated this New Music Weekly playlist to have you on top of highlights from these and other important releases in no time. Completists should also pay a visit to the Rdio New Releases in order to see the full collection of all the songs and albums that have just come out.

PLAYLIST NOTES

  • Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends
Portland’s most confusingly named act moves unabashedly toward the pop light with this full-length.

  • City and Colour - The Hurry and the Harm
Dallas Green’s latest album was previewed by his exclusive Rdio Sessions set. This is the fourth album from City and Colour, and first as a sole solo artist after departing Alexisonfire.

  • Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
The sixth album documents a tumultuous time for Josh Homme and crew, including the firing of the drummer, replaced on the album by Dave Grohl.

  • Capital Cities - Tidal Wave of Mystery
The “Safe and Sound” band finally drops the debut album and even scored a collaboration with Andre 3000 and NPR’s credit announcer, Frank Tavares.

  • Quadron - Avalanche
The Danish duo consisting of Robin Hannibal (who is one-half of Rhye) and Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj (who has collaborated with Tyler, The Creator), call their sound “electronic soul.”
