With the end of each musical year comes the scrutinizing of what happened over the last 12 months — Who released the best album? The worst? The most overrated? Yesterday we gave you our Rdio picks for the best music of the year. Today we’re letting our Influencers do the talking — they're the arbiters of musical taste who, provided you’ve been following them, have been letting you in on the hottest artists all year.
The staff at Prefix Mag, Paste Magazine, Absolute Punk, and Filter Magazine put together lists of the Best Songs of 2011, and XLR8R did the same, albeit in a collaborative way so that fans can add their own favorites to the list.
Exclaim! organized their lists by genre, with three songs from each album included on their year-end lists. The Dumbing of America got creative, too — they’ve included year-end Rdio playlists not only by their own staff, but by a number of influential artists too, including members of The Head and the Heart, The Joy Formidable, Crocodiles, and Joy Division/New Order veteran Peter Hook, among others.
