Chromecast-stations-blog-image-20140326-sdl

We are thrilled to share news that starting today you can listen to Rdio on Google Chromecast. Chromecast allows you to cast songs, albums, stations, and playlists to your TV — then control playback from anywhere in your house and enjoy a beautiful display of album art on your big screen. This means you now have a whole new way to surround yourself with your music in the comfort of your home.

Chromecast works with devices you already own, including Android tablets and smartphones, iPhones, iPads, Chrome for Mac and Chrome for Windows. Once the Chromecast device is setup, simply press the cast icon in the Rdio iOS, Android or Web apps. You won't have to learn anything new. If you’re new to Rdio, you can start a free trial by simply downloading the Rdio app and registering.

“Rdio on Google Chromecast marks another milestone in Rdio’s commitment to delivering the best music experience everywhere,” said Anthony Bay, chief executive officer of Rdio. “Music fans can access Rdio’s massive catalogue of over 20 million songs or start a station easily, all from Chromecast on their TV.”

We are very excited about this awesome new way to play Rdio at home and unleash your favourite music, check out new releases, and stream an endless variety of Stations from anywhere in the house right to your TV with Chromecast’s bold new technology. It’s not only easy, but with a starting price of £30 Chromecast is also affordable.

Rdio Pushes for Net Neutrality in Europe

Network_neutrality_poster_symbol

At Rdio, we believe there should be a level playing field on the internet, in order to provide the best experience for consumers, with seamless and reliable access to their favourite content, whether it is video, music, web pages or simple information. That is the future of online, and it’s something that can be achieved – or at least significantly improved – through net neutrality.

Because of our passion for this issue, Rdio today joined industry peers Netflix, Soundcloud, and 22tracks to sign an open letter to the European Parliament to further Net Neutrality protection. The European Commission’s proposal for the “Connected Continent” is a strong push in the right direction, but we’ve joined with our peers in the industry to argue for revisions that pursue net neutrality while safeguarding innovation in Europe.

We believe that a level playing field, with no special exemptions for one company or sector or another, is crucial to delivering the best experiences online for consumers. That’s what matters. People want content delivered smoothly and reliably over the internet – that is without question the future, and we believe it is important that nothing hinders this.

Rdio is available in 51 countries across 6 continents. If you're new to Rdio, start listening for free today to your favourite artist, song, album, or more than 400 stations. Upgrade to Rdio Unlimited anytime for unlimited mobile music everywhere you go.

Rdio for iOS: It’s Getting Better All the Time

Playlist-reviews-20140210-jj

Rdio is already the best music app available (just ask the New York Times), but that’s not good enough for us — we’re always looking for ways to make our mobile app even better.

So today, we’re excited to launch two new features on the Rdio app for iOS.

First up is playlist editing. Now, you can update your playlists from your iPhone or iPod touch — in addition to creating playlists and adding new tracks, you can now remove and rearrange tracks until you’ve made the best playlist ever (or it’s dethroned by your next playlist, of course). You can also customize the playlist artwork, change its visibility and collaboration settings, and more.

The other big addition is reviews. You can now write album and playlist reviews right from the iOS app, and read reviews by critics and other people on Rdio. It’s a great way to see what other listeners think of your favourite albums and let your own voice be heard.

We’ve also made tweaks to the app’s design, user interface, and overall performance — all the little details that make Rdio so enjoyable to use.

We hope you enjoy the updates on Rdio for iOS. We look forward to bringing these new features to Android down the road.

Haven’t tried Rdio on mobile yet? Download our apps for free from the iTunes App Store or Google Play.

Rdio + Shazam Go Global

Rdio and Shazam

We’ve been incredibly thrilled about working with Shazam the past year to power music discovery in new and creative ways. Earlier this month we announced our latest integration with Shazam to offer a personal playlist of your Shazamed songs in the Rdio App. This playlist updates automatically with every new song you tag in Shazam, making it easy to relive a brilliant night out, track for track, on Rdio. Music fans can also instantly listen to entire songs right after tagging them in Shazam by clicking the “Listen Free on Rdio” link within the app.

Now Rdio and Shazam are taking these integrations around the world to 29 additional countries including France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Working together in major countries across the globe, we are now providing more than 270 million Shazam users the ability to instantly listen to an entire song they just identified exclusively on Rdio and seamlessly build playlists on Rdio,” said Daniel Danker, chief product officer of Shazam.

“Music lovers around the globe can now connect Shazam's tagging feature with Rdio's digital music service. All the songs tagged in Shazam are automatically added to a 'My Shazam Tracks' playlist in Rdio, making it easy to identify, save, and organise their music discoveries,” said Anthony Bay, chief executive officer of Rdio. “Rdio and Shazam are at the forefront of how people are discovering new music.”

Here is the complete list of the 35 countries where the Shazam and Rdio integration is now available: United States, United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Venezuela.

Today Is Gonna Be the Day: Oasis Catalogue Arrives On Rdio

DefinitelyMaybeOasis2PR200712

2014 is already looking to be an excellent year for music. It is the 20th anniversary of Oasis’ seminal debut album “Definitely Maybe” and to kick-off the celebration the band is now making their entire catalogue available for streaming on Rdio. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the news.

You’ve surely kept up with the ongoing antics of brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in the press, and now you can listen (or re-listen) to every record they’ve released — including eight (yes eight!) UK #1 albums and eight #1 singles.

As leaders in the early 90’s post-grunge Britpop phenomenon — which included archrivals Blur — Oasis’ guitar-driven sound showcases clear inspiration from original British Invasion acts like the Kinks, David Bowie, and the Beatles while layering on the more modern influences of fellow Mancunian bands like The Smiths, Happy Mondays, and the Stone Roses.

One listen to Oasis reminds you why their music has made them one of the most influential and successful UK bands of all time. And now you can play their stellar catalogue right here on Rdio. The only thing left to do is wonder about those 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour rumours.

Listen to the band’s breakout albums Definitely Maybe and [What’s the Story] Morning Glory, or browse through the complete Oasis collection here.

And — as a tribute to the band’s enduring influence and to salute his Gallagher mates, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has shared this playlist of favourite Oasis tracks to take you through the Oasis journey, from Rock ‘N’ Roll Star to the Masterplan:
