Rdio + Shazam Go Global

Rdio and Shazam

We’ve been incredibly thrilled about working with Shazam the past year to power music discovery in new and creative ways. Earlier this month we announced our latest integration with Shazam to offer a personal playlist of your Shazamed songs in the Rdio App. This playlist updates automatically with every new song you tag in Shazam, making it easy to relive a brilliant night out, track for track, on Rdio. Music fans can also instantly listen to entire songs right after tagging them in Shazam by clicking the “Listen Free on Rdio” link within the app.

Now Rdio and Shazam are taking these integrations around the world to 29 additional countries including France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Working together in major countries across the globe, we are now providing more than 270 million Shazam users the ability to instantly listen to an entire song they just identified exclusively on Rdio and seamlessly build playlists on Rdio,” said Daniel Danker, chief product officer of Shazam.

“Music lovers around the globe can now connect Shazam's tagging feature with Rdio's digital music service. All the songs tagged in Shazam are automatically added to a 'My Shazam Tracks' playlist in Rdio, making it easy to identify, save, and organise their music discoveries,” said Anthony Bay, chief executive officer of Rdio. “Rdio and Shazam are at the forefront of how people are discovering new music.”

Here is the complete list of the 35 countries where the Shazam and Rdio integration is now available: United States, United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Peru, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, and Venezuela.

Our partnership with Shazam is one of the many ways we are dedicated to bringing the Rdio experience to music lovers everywhere. BAFTA Original Music Nominees on Rdio

Baftas

Many of the most memorable moments in film are all about the music, with some movie soundtracks becoming even more popular than the on-screen action. Now that awards season is getting into full swing and the nominations are out for the esteemed BAFTA Best Original Film Music category, it’s the perfect time to indulge in some of the most epic film music from the past year on Rdio.

Last year’s winning composer Tom Newman (for Skyfall) has gone and got himself nominated again with his supercalifragilisticexpialidocious musical accompaniment to Saving Mr Banks. It’s a bit of a nostalgic nod to the original Walt Disney score with an added twist (namely the Colin Farrell voiceover on Chim Chim Cher – ee).

Other nominees include John Williams, who has stepped away from the Spielberg-esque Hollywood soundtracks he is famed for and composed the stunning and subtle soundtrack to The Book Thief. Brit composer (and ex Seal songwriter) Henry Jackman’s epic accompaniment to Captain Phillips is also a strong contender. Gravity, this year’s most nominated film at the BAFTAs, has also made the shortlist with Steven Price’s minimalist and otherworldly composition.

Movie of the moment, 12 Years a Slave finishes off the nominees list with big names such as John Legend, Alicia Keys and Laura Mvula featuring on this poignant soundtrack.

Have a listen and let us know what you think on Facebook or Twitter.

Today Is Gonna Be the Day: Oasis Catalogue Arrives On Rdio

DefinitelyMaybeOasis2PR200712

2014 is already looking to be an excellent year for music. It is the 20th anniversary of Oasis’ seminal debut album “Definitely Maybe” and to kick-off the celebration the band is now making their entire catalogue available for streaming on Rdio. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the news.

You’ve surely kept up with the ongoing antics of brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher in the press, and now you can listen (or re-listen) to every record they’ve released — including eight (yes eight!) UK #1 albums and eight #1 singles.

As leaders in the early 90’s post-grunge Britpop phenomenon — which included archrivals Blur — Oasis’ guitar-driven sound showcases clear inspiration from original British Invasion acts like the Kinks, David Bowie, and the Beatles while layering on the more modern influences of fellow Mancunian bands like The Smiths, Happy Mondays, and the Stone Roses.

One listen to Oasis reminds you why their music has made them one of the most influential and successful UK bands of all time. And now you can play their stellar catalogue right here on Rdio. The only thing left to do is wonder about those 20th Anniversary Reunion Tour rumours.

Listen to the band’s breakout albums Definitely Maybe and [What’s the Story] Morning Glory, or browse through the complete Oasis collection here.

And — as a tribute to the band’s enduring influence and to salute his Gallagher mates, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has shared this playlist of favourite Oasis tracks to take you through the Oasis journey, from Rock ‘N’ Roll Star to the Masterplan:
