2013 was an incredible year for music. Revisit the top songs of the year and find out what to expect next with Rdio’s 2013: Off the Charts year-in-review, brimming with playlists that provide a thoughtful summary of what moved music culture this year and a look ahead to great music moments to come.

Rdio Top Charts showcases the songs and albums that the Rdio community played the most in 2013. Check out who topped the Rdio Charts worldwide and which artists were most popular by region. One artist scored twice this year by taking both the global top track and top album slot. Think you know who it is? Take a look and find out if you guessed right!

Our Staff Picks playlist reveals our office obsessions, those tunes we couldn’t take off repeat for pretty much the whole year, while Rdio Recommends highlights artists of note that we championed throughout 2013. And because we like to keep the needle moving forward, we put together a playlist of 2014 Artists to Watch to provide a jumpstart on what’s coming up next.

2013: Off the Charts is also the place to check out our exclusive Rdio Covers project. We took the songs you streamed most in 2013, plus a few we thought made the biggest impact, and put them in the creative hands of artists you should know for the new year. And they made magic! Miley Cyrus’ emotional hit “Wrecking Ball” gets a new beat in the hands of electro-pop duo Hi Fashion. Robin Thicke’s irrepressible “Blurred Lines” is re-envisioned by R&B singer Nylo. And Lorde’s breakthrough “Royals” has a whole new take when performed by UK band, Monarchy. Rdio listeners have exclusive access to these songs and many more Rdio Covers from Junior Prom, LIGHTS, Echosmith, Colette Carr, Au Revoir Simone, Bright Light Bright Light, and Polly Scattergood.

2013, thank you for the music. Time to play!

For Your Eyes and Ears: Snoopzilla on New Music Weekly

Snoop Dogg has teamed up with SoCal producer Dam-Funk and adopted the new moniker Snoopzilla to produce the smooth but hard hitting 7 Days of Funk, which is available to stream exclusively on Rdio two weeks early with an Rdio-only bonus track.

7 Days of Funk shines with Snoop’s self-assured smoothness and fresh beats that blend with the retro vibe layered throughout the album. The funk masterpiece was a natural pick to spotlight in this week’s New Music Weekly Video Series, where new music inspires new art. Taking the stage with Snoop is video artist Golden Wolf, who plays puppet master with the Doggfather and Dam-Funk to create this whimsical motion art companion piece for the funktastic track, "Do My Thang."

On what inspired the concept video, Golden Wolf reminisced:

"We got a pretty instantaneous hit of visuals when we first heard "Do My Thang." Being children of the 80s it was a nostalgic mix of our parents' vinyl collection and kids TV like the Muppets and Fraggle rock. Building on this we knew we had to transport Snoopzilla and Dam Funk into the world of puppets. We felt that a track as simple and smooth as this needed a video that stripped away all the fuss and really let Dam and Snoop do their thing, 80s style."

Just when you had gotten used to calling him Snoop Lion, the dee oh double gee has flipped it once again! Snoop Dogg’s latest alias is Snoopzilla, the insatiable funk monster who stars with SoCal producer Dam-Funk in 7 Days of Funk. The new album furthers Snoop’s career-long dedication to the G-Funk and the P-Funk as descended from his spiritual godfather George Clinton and his frequent collaborator Bootsy Collins (who Snoop tributes here with his Snoopy Collins guise). Bootsy himself guest stars on the album, as does Dogg Pound homies Daz and Kurupt and multi-instrumentalist Steve Arrington. In addition, the Rdio edition of 7 Days of Funk will feature an exclusive bonus track “Wingz,” which will continue to be available only on Rdio.
