New Music Tuesday - August 7, 2012

Delicate, emotive piano-pop outfit Antony & The Johnsons leads the new releases, but there’s a distinctively international flavor to this week’s new tunes. Former Sudanese child soldier and spoken-word musician Emmanuel Jal has a new album out, as do Brooklyn Afro-funk collective Antibalas. Heavy music icon Rob Zombie rounds out the week’s new albums, but as per usual, there are tons more in our playlist notes below.

Listen to the weekly New Music Tuesday playlist and find the rest of this week’s new albums in the Rdio New Releases.

Playlist Notes

  • Niki & The Dove - Instinct
The Swedish electro-pop trio’s debut follows in the same vein of grand, synth-driven music that they introduced on their EP late last year. Now, there’s a whole album to enjoy.

  • Various Artists - Perez Hilton presents Pop Up! #1
This week, celeb blogger Perez Hilton releases the first volume of a series acknowledging the next wave of pop and electronic acts. This one features Kerli, My Name is Kay, and The Cataracs, among others.

  • Big Boi - “She Said Okay”
All funk and swagger, “She Said Okay” is a lewd after-hours tune that revels in the naughty details. It also signals that the Outkast member is back in the recording booth for his next album.

  • Grizzly Bear - “Yet Again”
The elegant indie-pop troupe’s new album is just around the bend, and new single “Yet Again” shows the band at their most forthright, with waves of guitar chords and a yearning vocal take.
